When Corp called

It was inevitable but today I had my first proper meeting with a corporate client. When my bosses set up the meeting,  the first thing I heard was 'it's time to take out the suits and ties', fashionwise it was not a good sign for me and I immediately picked up the phone to my 'corpy' friend and asked her to dress me up for the meeting. I trawled through my wardrobe and pulled out the best 'smart' dresses I had but my friend was one step ahead of me and picked up a couple of items from her 'smart' wardrobe to bring over. I felt it would be best to let her make the choices, whether I liked them or not and after trying out a number of looks we both were in agreement that this grey dress with a white shirt layered underneath will probably do the job just fine. To be honest I really wasn't a fan of this look, it really felt a bit out of my comfort zone so decided to leave the white shirt and just wear the dress with a nice pair of moderate heels. At the end of the day I felt the content of the meeting and its success was much more important than nailing that 'corporate' look I'm so scared of and luckily the meeting went well so now I can go back home and change into an outfit I feel more comfortable in.

If it ain't broke ...

There's nothing that makes me happier than sticking to a familiar formula when it comes to getting dressed. Some days I get up and have an incredible need for experimenting but lately, as I mentioned before, on most days I will just stick with what's familiar and comfortable and there's nothing more comfortable and familiar than a white shirt layered with a nice jumper or sweatshirt. I don't know why but it was one of those things I seem to have forgotten about when I got into a style rut and decided wearing black dresses is the ultimate solution for a simple outfit especially since my wardrobe is full of jumpers and sweatshirts just begging to be layered on top a nice white shirt. I was certainly relieved when my Monday morning routine was made slightly easier when I put on this outfit.

Monday

Slowly but surely I'm starting to fall in love with a blazer and button-up shirt look. I always thought this look might be too serious for me but I guess with the right kind of blazer and the right kind of white shirt it's the kind of easy and classic look that you just can't go wrong with.  I was planning on wearing something completely different this morning but then in the last minute remembered I had a meeting scheduled and as I was already with one foot out of the door I had to make a quick outfit change that didn't require too much thinking and planning and so it was, a white shirt, a blazer and a leather skirt. The perfect lazy, last minute ,Monday morning outfit.

Not keeping up with resolutions...

American Vintage skirt , Gap shirt, River Island jacket
I've been debating with myself whether I want to post this outfit or not. This is actually what I wore to work today and it's the result of not keeping up with my resolution to lay out whatever I want to wear the night before. This resolution is something that appears on my resolutions list almost every year and I always manage to break it fairly quickly unfortunately. Most of the time I usually tell myself what I think I want to wear before going to bed, a lot of the times I have to admit I can't remember those details in the morning, and today's outfit is exactly what happens when I try to remember what I was thinking of wearing the night before. Obviously this is not what I was thinking of but when I woke up too late it was really a case of grabbing whatever I thought would work. I sort spent the day regretting I was wearing this outfit but I guess there are good fashion days and bad fashion days , for me at least. At least this has been a good reminder why  I should work harder on keeping up my New Year's resolutions after all :)

Always last minute

Trying to pull myself out of bed after three nights of pre-holiday festivities wasn't easy but I still had some few last bits of shopping and gift wrapping to do today before going back to bed for a well deserved rest.
I took advantage of the fact it stopped raining decided to go for a few simple items for my mad dash for the last few hours of Christmas shopping.
I chose my Topshop biker jacket and teamed it with a white button up and a boucle skirt, for the final touch I wore my new Kurt Geiger shoes which I got in the sales and topped it all up with my coat (yes I like to layer up and keep warm...)

So here it is , what is probably my last outfit before the holiday officialy starts.

Monday laziness attacks

I Could not get up this morning , just couldn't , it was raining and so dark even for the relatively late time I
 usually wake up at.
I felt so lazy , dragging myself out of bed and trying to get dressed, I only wanted to reach for the simplest items I could find.
The white shirt used to be a staple in my wardrobe but in the last few months it found it's way to the black hole in the back of my wardrobe and been replaced by warm grey and black jumpers.
I decided that today a change would be good and thought teaming the white shirt with this shiny bouclĂ© skirt can make the outfit feel a little more cheerful on this grey and cold day, teamed with the Zara coat it was a perfect way to brighten an otherwise grim Monday morning.
