Coat Check

According to the newspaper's today is the most depressing day of the year but for me the day after the Christmas break is actually one of the happiest days, it's the day in which I feel a great relief in going to back to my daily routine and it's always mixed with a little bit of excitement and anticipation for the new year.
As I was feeling extra cheerful this morning I decided it will be a good time for a bit of a lighter touch to my outfit with the help of my new coat. It did feel a little strange to wear such a light coat especially as I'm used to so much black in my wardrobe so decided to wear my biker jacket underneath to add a little bit of an edge to this classic coat, I felt I needed the extra detail to help me feel a little more comfortable shifting away from my usual black coat. I feel really happy with this new addition to my wardrobe now despite my initial reservations, it certainly made me want to add a bit more colour and lighter shades into my wardrobe.

old favourites

It dawned on me a few days ago that as my search for a new job is progressing , soon enough I might not be able to carry with my habit of wearing whatever I want to work. Most of the recent places that I sent my applications for are more corporate than the workplaces I worked in and to be honest, although it's still a long process somewhere inside I'm both excited and scared of the thought that I might need to rethink how I'm dressing for work. Thinking about this made me seek comfort in some old favourites hiding in my wardrobe. This outfit is nothing to write about home and I've featured all of those items previously, but those three items might be the best representation of what casual work attire means to me and I think that in the next few months while I keep looking for a job I'll try to go back to my old favourites more often so I can celebrate the freedom of wearing whatever I want to work as long as I can.

Take me out

I was hoping I'll be able to skip my usual weather discussion but hello, what a sunny day it was ! A perfect excuse to get out to meet with my friends earlier today. Obviously it was also a great excuse to tuck away my winter coat for a few hours and try out the biker jacket from Zara that has been sitting and waiting for warmer days.
I chose to stick with my favourite combination for the moment which is black blue and white, blue is certainly growing on me from day to day so those are the items that catch my eye in an instant. When it was time for me to get ready I knew that this combination is what I wanted to wear. it's a simple outfit but I really loved the contrasts between the three colours and the print and more than anything I was absolutely excited about not having to wrap up extra layers to keep warm and just go out and enjoy the sunshine!

Monday surprises

There's nothing that makes me happier than getting a package from home , but I really wasn't prepared for what my mum put in the package I received this morning. When she told me a couple of weeks ago she's got a really special surprise in the post for me I was hoping for some sweets and snacks from back home but when I opened the package I got this morning I couldn't believe my eyes. The package included some of my favourites sweets but tucked neatly under layers of wrapping paper I found this Zara jacket and the Iro skirt I was planning to buy in the sales but decided it would be a little bit too much for my budget. I was so surprised with the contents of this package I almost felt like crying. Luckily I'm going to visit my family next month so I think I'll have to think of a nice way to pay back my mum for those insanely expensive treats she packed for me, she also let me on a little secret about where she found this skirt on a very heavy discount and promised we'll take a trip to check out the place when I'm on my holiday next month.

Snow ? What snow ?

Yes, I still haven't completely succumbed to the cold weather, well, I did fall for jumper dresses and leggings very briefly during the weekend and despite my annoying cold I still felt adventurous this morning, probably a ridiculous move I'll regret when I walk back home in the freezing cold, but at least I felt happier wearing this outfit. This is the sort of outfit that makes me feel good and I really needed to start the week feeling positive. So once I layered a dress a shirt and a biker jacket and a scarf, there was one thing I just couldn't get away from wearing, yes, it was the wellies, there was no way I could do my walk to work without them but at least I knew that once I get to the office I can put them under my desk until I leave. I think I might have found some balance after all without having to pile on thermals and sweaters to keep warm, but as usual I might be completely wrong!

Welcoming the weekend with layered comfort

River Island Jacket, Zara shirts, Zara Skirt, Bershka Shoes
After a day of running around in a short sleeved dress yesterday , today is all about warming up and taking it easy before the weekend.
Temperatures seem to have gone down a little bit over the last few days and yesterday' brave short sleeve outfit only made me want to get back to my routine of extreme layering which I managed to do well without for a few days.
I think the biker jacket and khaki shirt are slowly becoming regulars in my outfits, looking back over the last couple of weeks they both seem to make an appearance quite often and I'm actually quite happy to build my outfits around them or use them as extra layers to keep me warm. The plaid shirt has also become quite a staple despite my initial doubts about it and this outfit in my opinion works so well with those layers, the studded shoes and a simple black skirt. I'm back to feeling comfy and warm and happily waiting for the weekend to start now.

Sheer and cheerful

Sheer biker jacket - Zara , Dress - Urban Outfitters
Waking up early on Monday mornings is certainly proving to be a great way to start the week. Despite the darkness outside and the usual gloomy weather, I had enough time to run to the gym , get back home and get ready for work, guess that's not a bad way to start the week!
I've been planning to wear the sheer jacket I got from Zara last week, I know it might be a bit too cold but I thin yesterday's outfit choice made me thing that it might be actually bearable once I get to the office and set the heating on full blast. The dress I chose is a dress I haven't had a chance to wear since I bought it last summer , I've been trying to find a way to wear it in the cold weather but just couldn't get it to look the way i wanted until I realised the dress and the sheer jacket might actually be a perfect match, a light and casual outfit perfect to start the week with. I'm actually really happy with this outfit because I'm already thinking it will be a great transition outfit when it gets a little warm, in the meantime I'll keep the heating on when wearing this one.

1 2 3 ... Check ...

My Saturday morning started a lot earlier than usual as I had to wake at 6:30am to catch a train to London for a little walk around and lunch with friends from back home. This meant that I actually HAD to try and sort out an outfit last night so I won't have to stress in the morning and get a few extra minutes of sleep.
Since I knew we'll spend a large part of the day walking around I decided to go for something comfy and warm and chose this checkered grey jumper which I got from a clothes swap I did with my friends a while ago and never really had the guts to wear as I thought it might actually be a bit too bold for me. Last night when I decided to wear it I thought the easiest way to tone it down a little would be to wear a biker jacket on top , it turned out to be quite a nice and simple outfit. I also wore my Zara coat on top to help me keep warm,. I know it might sound like a bit of an overload but at least I felt cosy and comfortable running around the city with my friends all day long.

Not keeping up with resolutions...

American Vintage skirt , Gap shirt, River Island jacket
I've been debating with myself whether I want to post this outfit or not. This is actually what I wore to work today and it's the result of not keeping up with my resolution to lay out whatever I want to wear the night before. This resolution is something that appears on my resolutions list almost every year and I always manage to break it fairly quickly unfortunately. Most of the time I usually tell myself what I think I want to wear before going to bed, a lot of the times I have to admit I can't remember those details in the morning, and today's outfit is exactly what happens when I try to remember what I was thinking of wearing the night before. Obviously this is not what I was thinking of but when I woke up too late it was really a case of grabbing whatever I thought would work. I sort spent the day regretting I was wearing this outfit but I guess there are good fashion days and bad fashion days , for me at least. At least this has been a good reminder why  I should work harder on keeping up my New Year's resolutions after all :)

Sheer temptation

Sheer biker jacket - Zara
Yesterday while running errands I fell for the Zara trap again and decided to walk in and have a last look at the sale items. Zara in the sales period is usually an absolute mess and I find it hard to find anything when everything is just all over the place but I decided to have another look yesterday to see if I can spot anything that might be worth an investment and found this gorgeous sheer biker style jacket which I thought would be a great item to layer with when the weather gets a little warmer, it looks lovely over a simple t-shirt and might actually be a great alternative to cardigans which I'm not usually a fan off. So yeah , there again, I'm admitting I once again fell into the sales trap, so glad the holidays are nearly over and everything will be getting back to normal soon  :)
Happy New Year !

Washed out ...

Topshop Skirt , Zara shirt, H&M jacket
It's the last day of the year and after over a week of celebrations , running around between friends, shops , events , I'm finally having a quiet day to run some errands, organise my wardrobe and tidy up the house, later on I'll be going to one of those fancy New Year's Eve dinners and I'm not looking forward to trying to figure out what to wear, but it's very likely I'll just pull out the same dress I wore for my Christmas do's so for now I'm concentrating on getting ready to run outside before everything shuts down. The weather as usual is grey and wet so I'm trying to wrap up and keep it simple. I'm wearing a Topshop skirt, a Khaki shirt from Zara and a biker jacket to keep me warm as I'm running around.
Wishing you a lovely last day of 2012 and an amazing 2013! Happy New year :)
