The fashion snore

The fashion snore

My lack of posts recently can only be explained by the fact I have now officially entered that phase of the year which I call the 'fashion snore', I experience this every winter just after Christmas when the shops are still full of last season's sale items and all you wish for is to see something bright and new that hints that in a few months time spring will come. By now my fashion snore situation is so bad that I can't even look at myself in the mirror in the morning after I get dressed simply because I know that seeing myself wearing that black roll neck again might send me back straight to bed.
To keep it short, I'm feeling a bit fed up with my dark wardrobe, the same boring black dresses and solid jumpers that I've become so used to in the last few months, I just feel that I'm in an urgent need of a colour and print injection but deep inside I know I'm not brave enough to make that switch yet, so I find myself scouring the internet for the most eye-popping prints and colours in a hope of finding something that will finally help me conquer my craving for a little bit of colour and print and save me from this fashion snore.

Winter florals

I managed to catch a little bit of sunshine this morning when I met a friend for breakfast which meant I was in a bit of cheerful mood so I decided it would be a good opportunity to wear something that is not my usual choice of late of a jumper and skirt. I bought this floral dress at Zara last week actually thinking it would be a great item to wear year-round. I love a little bit of a floral print and the original plan was to layer it under a chunky knit when it gets very cold, but luckily today wasn't too bad and I could just wear it as is with my biker jacket.
It actually feels like it's been quite a long time since I had a little floral number in my wardrobe which brings a nice change, especially after wearing so much grey and black recently.

Saturday play

Iro printed skirt, Zara jumper, Bershka shoes
I was really looking forward to the weekend, I needed rest and time for myself. I have quite a big week coming ahead and I wanted to dedicate this for some well deserved quiet time, however I was really surprised this morning when I woke up and the sun was shining, which meant I couldn't resist getting out of my apartment and enjoying a few hours in the sun (as much as you can get when it's still only 6 degrees outside). I also felt it would be a good time to try out the Iro skirt my mum surprised me with earlier this week and as usual I teamed it with a simple black jumper to keep me warm. I seem to be stuck with this look , a printed skirt and a simple jumper and some days I feel as if it's become my one and only look recently , which seems to be quite frustrating for me recently as I feel like most outfits just don't come very easily and my creativity is at all time low,  but today I felt this playful combination was right in place. A simple outfit again but in my opinion just the perfect look for a Saturday morning walk outside.

No extras

Zara jacquard pattern mini skirt

A printed skirt and a solid jumper , probably my favourite outfit to wear when I'm in a rush or can't really decide on what to wear. When I wear a skirt like that I prefer to keep it simple. This skirt is a recent purchase from Zara's new collection, I really didn't think I would like it as I thought the print was a little too much and my friend kept laughing at me and asking if I'm planning a magic carpet ride!  but after trying it on with just a black jumper I actually thought it's amazing, it's really not the sort of print I would usually go for but I definitely fell in love with it after trying it on. I'm thinking that a skirt like that doesn't really need any additions , no jewelry or accessories, just a solid top which makes this a perfect outfit for days I just don't feel like fussing around too much.

Whistles Blues

Whistles Blues

I've been looking at some of the new items on the Whistles website earlier this evening and whilst I was kind of bummed because I really can't afford anything from there at the moment. I think a look at the site made me develop a new affection for anything that combines blues, greys and blacks. Greys and blacks are easy to pull off  most of the time but I never thought of trying to add a little bit of blue into the combination and after checking out the Whistles website I'm thinking it might actually be a great way to inject a little bit of colour into my outfits which I seem to be repeating again and again recently. I know it's sort of a no brainer but I guess sometimes it takes a while for something to catch my eye. I remember I mentioned in the past that I usually find it hard to wear blue and always doubt myself when I end up wearing anything in that colour but maybe learning to play with dfferent shades of blue can be a great a way to inject more colour into my black and grey outfits and it might make me feel more excited about trying to add more blue items into my wardrobe, or at least try to work around with those I have sitting there right now.

Dressing for comfort - simple prints and warm knits

After a few days of playing around, trying out weather-defying outfits, attempting to make new trends 'work' and in general being a little confused about what I feel like wearing, I'm back to what I usually consider to be the most comfortable outfit.
The best way for me to get back to feeling comfortable is to wear the simplest items I have. When I think of simple and comfortable I usually look for an item that I can easily wear, this means that I don't need to adjust it, look 1000 times in the mirror to make sure it sits properly or spend a the whole day doubting my outfit.
Today I chose two items I featured before, both considerably old and spent significant amount of time untouched in my wardrobe. I shared my doubts about the khaki jumper before and wore the printed dress last weekend when I wanted my outfit to feel a little less wintery. This morning when getting ready for work I once again had the urge to wear something light and chose the dress, knowing that it would be far too cold outside for just the dress , I started trying on different jumpers , first it was black, then grey and even a very dark shade of blue, none of them worked and I was ready to put the dress back on the clothing rail until I remembered the khaki jumper I kept having doubts about. The minute I put those two together it just felt right, the dress is light and airy and the jumper seems to work just great with the light coloured print and obviously keep me warm. I'm happy that I have those days in which I discover that two items I don't care much about can work so well together and create a nice, warm and comfortable outfit.

Lazy Sunday afternoon

Yesterday seemed like a long day of running around and the only thing I wanted to do today was to relax at home , watch some movies with friends (more like a Dark Knight marathon !!!) and enjoy a quiet Sunday at home. One thing I knew after spending the day outside yesterday wearing a jumper , a jacket and a coat to keep warm was that I wanted to wear something light and comfortable and this dress is the perfect choice, it's certainly not a dress to wear around the house but with the cold weather outside it was actually a welcome change from the regular pile of clothes I wear when I go outside, more than that, it made me feel as if the spring is nearly here , I know there's still time but at least I felt like that for a little bit today whist wearing this dress.

Eye popping prints are everywhere!

Print Madness

I've been having such a great time checking out new season items which i obviously can't afford. My favourite items to lust over lately are the spectacular printed dresses that have taken over the runways in the spring/summer 2013 shows. Although I'm not a big fan of too many prints and usually settle for solid colours, I think the grey and cold weather definitely makes me want to add more bold colours and prints to my wardrobe and with such gorgeous dresses it would be really hard to say no. I'm loving the amazing complexity of the prints and the bold colours, I really cannot wait to see how high-street chains are going to adopt this trend, or maybe I should start trying to save so I can lust over one of those incredible dresses. My favourite ones have to be the gorgeous prints on the Erdem dresses which have such beautiful classic cuts, closely followed by the bold digital print dresses from Peter Pilotto.
